Lend Mother Nature a Helping Hand with False Eyelashes

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

Have you ever wondered how the starlets, supermodels, debutantes, and ingénues that populate the pages of the fashion magazines all seem to have been blessed with such lush lashes? Well, the truth just might surprise you – in most cases, those enviable, inch-long eyelashes are fakes.

If you’ve always thought that false eyelashes were popular only among those with questionable taste, think again. Over the last few years, false eyelashes have soared in popularity. Today, they’re a beauty must for in-the-know fashionistas all over the globe.

In terms of quality and ease of use, today’s false eyelashes are a far cry from the spidery, messy products that were popular decades ago. Even a first-time user can get the lush, full eyelashes they’re looking for with little difficulty.

Are you thinking about giving false eyelashes a try? Use these steps to achieve a picture-perfect application.

Just a trim. The secret to great-looking false eyelashes is ensuring that they look as natural as possible. One important step is making sure that the false eyelashes are a good match to your real lashes in size, shape, and colour. Using cosmetic scissors, snip the false eyelashes into the right shape.

Lay the foundation. Start with clean eyelashes. Begin by curling your lashes with an eyelash curler. Then, apply a thick, even coat of your favourite mascara. This will make the application process go more smoothly, as the texture will make it easier for the false eyelashes to “stick.”

Press end to end. After you’ve applied a thin layer of glue and situated the false eyelashes in place, secure them with a finger at each corner of your eyelid and press. After holding for one or two minutes, remove your hand very slowly to ensure that the false eyelashes won’t stick to your fingers.

Use liner to fill in the blanks. You can enhance the optical illusion of false eyelashes by using eyeliner to trace over the border where the lashes meet your lid. This will eliminate the choppy, unnatural look that gaps in the false eyelashes can leave.

Go for a natural look. Before you walk out the door fluttering your newly applied false eyelashes, do one last check to make sure everything’s in place. Experts recommend checking your false eyelashes near a sunny window or on your back patio to make sure they look fantastic in natural light.

Can’t Live Without Mascara? Thank Maybelline!

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Today, Maybelline is one of the best-known brands of value cosmetics. Popular around the world, this line offers dependable quality at prices that can’t be beat. But many buyers might be surprised to know that Maybelline has one of the most venerable and long-lasting histories in the cosmetics industry.

It’s hard to imagine today, but back in the early twentieth century, there were few commercial options available for women seeking to enhance their natural looks with cosmetics. Most of the products that women used as makeup were homemade concoctions based on common household items.

It was this situation that sparked the attention of chemist and entrepreneur T.L. Williams. Williams noticed his sister using household chemicals such as petroleum jelly and charcoal dust as primitive cosmetics. Sensing an opportunity, Williams developed a proprietary formula called Lash-Brow-Ine that was an early form of mascara. Although it was a local hit, it never achieved a major following outside the New York area.

Several years later, Williams attempted to improve on his formula. He developed another formula, which was a cake-based mascara that he dubbed “Maybelline,” based on the name of his sister, Maybel, who inspired Williams’ initial forays into makeup production.

This innovation set Williams’ fledgling company on the path to success. Over the next several decades, Williams rolled out several additional refinements, finally resulting in the wildly popular Maybelline Ultra-Lash mascara, which was released to great excitement and fanfare in the 1960s. Beauty experts say that the automatic wand packaging contributed to the popularity of the heavy-lashed look that was so widespread in that era.

In 1996, Maybelline became part of the L’Oreal family of cosmetics companies. Today, Maybelline remains the world leader in the value cosmetics market, offering a wide array of products to beauty- and value-conscious customers in over 90 countries.

How to apply eyeliner.

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Your eyes are the most prominent features of your face so you need to make the most of them when applying makeup.
Choose an eyeliner that is appropriate for the color of your eyes. For instance, if you have brown eyes, it would be wise for you to get brown or plum shades. Note that plum shade eye liners flatter brown eyes and make them look really interesting. On the other hand, if your eyes have lighter color, navy blue and charcoal accent will look great on you.

Another thing that you need to consider when buying eyeliner is the kind of look that you want to achieve. For instance, if you want to appear dramatic, you should get those liquid type eyeliners. On the other hand, if you want to give your eyes a soft definition, a pencil will do the trick better.

Applying the eyeliner:
Take your time when applying your makeup. A hurriedly put on eyeliner is not good to look at so make sure that you give yourself enough time.

If you are using a cake eyeliner, use a good brush to apply it. Put some water on your brush and then dip your brush into the cake. Use the brush to apply some color to your eyes. On the other, if you are using a pencil, adequately sharpen the pencil before you use it.
When applying liners with the use of a brush or a pencil, hold the brush as if you are holding a pen, tilt your head upward slightly and then open your eyes halfway. With your brush or pencil, draw a line across the upper lids of your eyes. Your line should be just above your eyelashes.

After applying your eyeliner, smooth out the line with the use of cotton swab or your fingers. If you are using a liquid eyeliner, make sure that you do not open your eyes fully before the liquid had completely dried or else you will smudge the folds of your eyes.

When you are done with the upper lids of your eyes, apply the lines on your lower lids. Do not apply too much color on your eyes especially during the day because this could make you look unnatural. Just apply enough color to define your eyes, nothing more.

How to use an eyelash curler.

Friday, September 28th, 2007

To get started you should make sure that your eyelashes are clean of other make-up, because curlers tend to work best on clean eyelashes. You should use make-up remover to remove old mascara or other make-up.
To receive the best results, use a blow dryer to carefully heat the eyelash curler. Place the eyelash curler under the blow dryer for about five seconds under low heat. Open the curler and clamp it on your lashes near the roots. Hold the eyelash curler at your eyelashes for ten to thirty seconds. The longer you hold curlers, the more your eyelashes will curl. Clamp and unclamp the eyelash curler as you move up your lashes.

Repeat this process on your other eye. If you want, you could curl your lower eyelashes, but many people don’t feel this is necessary.
